The Valencia Open

Last weekend I was lucky to be able to go and watch the semi finals of the Valencia Open with Rich and my sport mad family.

We saw the juniors' final followed by the first men's doubles semi final and then we saw local tennis hero David Ferrer win his semi final and progress to the final, which he also went on to win.  Cheering on Spanish players in all 3 matches made the day super exciting and it was well worth the €47 entrance fee as we were thoroughly entertained from 11am until 6pm.

The Magical Mystery Tour

A couple of weeks ago I was looking for an original Sunday out with Rich.  I thought it might be fun to come up with a few ideas of things each of us would like to do and then pick them out of a bag throughout the day.  And I was right.  It was an awesome day and this is how it went.

First up was Rich's choice.

It was a very sunny and warm October day so we got off to a slow start.  After walking to El Carmen we sat and had a bottle of wine and soaked up a few rays.

Next up was one of mine.

I'd heard that Plaza del Patriarca was the place to be on a Sunday but we obviously arrived later than most people as it was deserted.  It was stunning though and now I know where to find Hermes and Louis Vuitton.

But how were we going to get there?  Another draw into the bag helped us out no end.

The only thing wrong with the plan?  Well you never know when you're going to eat or drink.  One more please!

Ha, that's more like it!

So after a bike ride and a late lunch, we were off to the Hemisferic for an IMAX film about exploring the Nile.

While we were down there, we discovered that the Valencia Open had started and had a mooch around the stalls.

I love that the Hemisferic looks like a big bug from this angle.

A perfect day and we'll definitely try it again soon.

A Day At The Biopark With My Brother

I've already blogged about my love of the Bioparc, so I wanted to share the place with my brother while he was visiting.  We headed down yesterday, on a stunning Autumn day, and despite having been before, I was thrilled to get some fantastic pictures.  It was at least 10c cooler than last time we visited so the animals were more active, especially the playful lemurs.

I love how close you can get to the animals here and I was happy to see how much Simon enjoyed it too.

Speaking of my lovely brother, I'm happy to report that he bought me a season pass to the Bioparc for my birthday so that I can go any time I like for a whole year!  Awesome sauce!  Thanks again hun!

Church of San Martin

This beautiful church is just off Plaza de la Reina and was well worth the €1 charity donation to have a look around.  Building on the church started in 1372 and it has been added to and amended many times since.  The church is very plain and unassuming from outside but inside it is pretty spectacular.

It was very tricky to get a decent picture but I think you can see how plain a building it is.

This could well be the most bling tastic church I've ever seen!
